Creating International Collaboration Spaces for Researchers, Polimedia Presents JICOMS 2024
Jakarta – For the third time, Politeknik Negeri Media Kreatif (Polimedia) is hosting the Jakarta International Conference on Multidisciplinary Studies Towards Creative Industries (JICOMS) 2024. This event is attended by 108 participants, consisting of academics, students, and professional industry. With the theme Creative Industries in the Digital Era: A Multidisciplinary Research Collaboration, JICOMS aims to reflect a commitment to exploring and advancing the future of the sustainable creative industry.
“We are discussing a wide range of topics, including digital media, industrial technology in creative media, tourism and hospitality, fashion and lifestyle, information technology, as well as palm oil and its role in sustainable development. These topics are not only important for academic investigation but also at the core of the transformation happening across industries worldwide,” said Tipri Rose Kartika, Director of Polimedia in her opening speech.
JICOMS, Tipri continued, is an ideal platform for academics, industries, and a venue for exchanging experiences and knowledge across disciplines in the creative industry.
“This event is not just an opportunity to present research, it is an invitation to join forces in addressing the challenges of the digital era together,” she emphasized.
Sulthan Muhammad Yusa, The Indonesia Oil Palm Plantations Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS), stated that the current Human Innovative Competitive index in Indonesia remains relatively low. Research is not yet optimally facilitated by the government, while the impact of research is significant for society. This is why BPDPKS is supporting the JICOMS 2024 event and open an opportunities for other researchers to collaborate on research with BPDPKS.
“Indonesia is a large country, but its innovation ranking is still low compared to other countries. Therefore, BPDPKS has research funds that must be utilized by researchers, especially for research in the creative industries,” said Yusa.
Meanwhile, the Chair of JICOMS 2024, Gema Sukmawati Suryadi, added that this year, JICOMS 2024 is not only attended by participants from Indonesia, but also from Malaysia, China, and South Korea. The dozens of research abstracts submitted provide various interesting perspectives as a starting point for future collaboration. Moreover, the collaboration between Polimedia and BPDPKS began with a mural competition involving Polimedia students during Dies Natalis of Polimedia in October.
“This compilation of abstracts represents the forefront of research in the creative industry, offering invaluable insights that transcend cultural and geographical boundaries. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of JICOMS 2024. We hope this event will inspire valuable insights for both researchers and practitioners,” she said.
JICOMS 2024 was held on 11th until 13th November 2024 and features speakers from renowned experts and industry leaders, including Dr. Noor Azly Mohammed Ali (University Teknologi Mara, Malaysia), Dr. Jae-Mo Koo (Korea University of Media Arts, South Korea), Dr. Jeorg Neuman (Technische Universität Dresden, Germany), Philippe Grange, Ph.D. (La Rochelle University, France), and Sulthan Muhammad Yusa, S.E., MIB (The Indonesia Oil Palm Plantations Fund Management Agency).
